Well I just bought a nice woven basket laundry hamper that came with a linen liner/insert. However, the liner says that it cannot be machine washed (only spot washing). This won't work since I need to have multiple liners that I can toss in the laundry on a weekly basis and keep my hamper nice and fresh. So I decided to make my own liners (I've done a bit of sewing before with a sewing machine). Now the problem is that I have virtually no knowledge of fabrics. So I'm stuck choosing the proper fabric. I need something that is suitable for a laundry hamper. That is, it must be breathable, machine washable, durable so it won't fall apart due to constant washing. I'm guessing natural fabrics are the best but I'm not really sure that is true.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Burlap is totally inappropriate. The person who suggested that knows even less about fabric than you. I would suggest an all cotton or a polyester/cotton blend duck, poplin, or canvas. Wash the fabric in hot water and dry it in a hot dryer to preshrink it. Use the original liner as a pattern. This will provide you with a nice washable liner so you can keep things fresh.
