I was bitten by a snake in a garden 2 years ago, I didn't see it as it was tall grass, the doctors gave me an antihistamine and anti-inflammatory, and a cream to help close the wound.... I stopped having palpitations and the other symptoms and my sister washed the wound and removed all the dead tissue and put an ancient bark (tepescohuite) and that did close the wound... but now after 2 years the pain is flaring up like broken glass and I have a bit of swelling... could it be the same thing?
If you were bitten by a snake that has venom, then you have permanent damage at the site. Snake venom, depending on the kind of snake, is both cytotoxic (actually kills cells outright) and neurotoxic (kills neurons). When a snake is considered poisonous to man, it's because their venom is toxic enough to kill a sufficient amount of cells and neurons to seriously sicken or kill the entire human being. You can be bitten by a snake that has venom, but it's venom is not strong enough to cause serious systemic issues. The only damage received is locally, or at the site and the surrounding tissue. This would incude blood vessels in that area as well, since they too are made up of cells.
Whay you are experiencing COULD be nerve pain or adhesions. Now, when I say nerve pain, I mean it can take several years for nerves that have been severely damaged to regenerate themselves. For example, I had abdominal surgery and for an inch around the incision, I had no feeling. The nerves had been cut along with the skin and muscle. Six months later, I started getting what felt like little electrical shocks and by a year later I could completely feel there again. Adhesions however are scar tissue that has formed. You definately have scar tissue if you had a wound that needed to be closed. The scar tissue isn't only on the outside. Inside the scar tissue is much more extensive and since it's in a place that moves, it would be constantly breaking down and expanding itself. So, you could have a case of scar tissue that has built itself back up (the body does that to protect the weak area) around a muscle, a tendon, or even a blood vessel and could be causing reduced blood flow to the area of pain.
But if this is bad pain (8 to 10 on a scale from 0-10), constant pain of less intensity, the area is red or hot to the touch, swollen, or has numbness added in between that site and your foot, or in your foot, you need to be seen within the next 24 hours because you could have developed a blood clot in those damaged blood vessels.
A blood clot is more likely to form if you smoke, have had surgery recently, (if you're female) on birth control or estrogen of any form, have high cholesterol, or have long periods of being sedentary such as sitting for hours on a plane or in front of the TV. This can be very dangerous because a clot formed in a leg can break off and travel thru the veins back to the lungs where it can kill you. IF it is a clot.
I was lucky. I had a blood clot in a vein in my abdomen. It never traveled any further before I got treatment. It hurt like hell. Worse pain I'd ever felt. But that could be because it was in my abdomen. It maight have hurt a bit less if it'd been somewhere else, but it would still have really hurt. Oh and I had gone to a Doc-in-the-box like one of the other answerers suggested and they mis-diagnosed me with gastroenteritis. Go figure.
So, if you're having serious pain (especially constant) that is barely or not controlled by over-the-counter pain meds and there's swelling/tenderness/redness (any of those) at the site of the pain, you need to be seen by a Dr immediately. (even if you have to go to an ER)
If not then you should make an appt with your regular Doc and see if they can figure out what's going on.
