Do cuts heal faster in warm or cold water?

My friend cut her leg in the front yard of my house when passing an old part of the fence where a nail stuck out. It's not bad enough to go to the hospital, but it's not a small cut.
We called another friend, who's mother is a retired nurse. She said to soak the leg in water each day to prevent infection and to help it heal.
Does it make a difference if the water is warm or cold in the healing process?

I can't understand the nurses logic. A cut heals by creating a scab (which is created by platelets in the blood sprouting "feelers" and attaching themselves to each other and the the sides of the cut. Red blood cells are trapped in the tangle and dry to form the scab) White blood cells are constantly surrounding the structure to attack any foreign matter instantly. By wetting this structure it weakens the scab and gradually opens the scab further, greatening the chance for a scar to appear. My advice is quite simple - leave it alone, or at the most place a semi permeable plaster on top.
