Pie Plate

Yeah, I need help. I don't know much about pies and I've never taken much notice to what they are made in. I want to make this almond joy pie but the recipe says to use a 9 inch pie plate. Ok? So like an actual glass/ceramic cookware plate or those aluminum ones I usually see? It's for a potluck and I want to make it look like the pies I always see, I think they're in the aluminum ones. Can I throw that in the oven? That's a lot of heat! So should I use the aluminum dish or an actual plate? Ah, please help 
I accidentally extended the expiration of the question but I'd like to thank the answer that included placing a cookie sheet under to avoid spilling. That was great, thx. Hint hint for who my best answer will be.

My first preference is a stoneware pie plate. Stoneware evens out the temperature throughout the pie which makes it bake a bit more efficiently. Next, my preference would be a ceramic or glass plate; especially for a pot luck. This looks nicer and gives a more of a "homemade" look 
The tin plates tend to be a bit smaller than the other plates - and don't look as nice.
