Appreciation Combo

So I'm planning a "family appreciation dinner" (lame, i know), but I'm kinda stuck, so I need some opinions.
I wanted to make scalloped potatoes and steak, but instead of cooking the steak in the oven - I wanna toss em on the grill and slobber em in bbq sauce.
I also want to have some kinda of vegatable dish - like stir fry - on the side.
So, my question is: Is that a weird dinner combo?
All suggestions welcome and greatly appreciated.

I think that dinner sounds great! I love scalloped potatos with steak and the stir fry sounds delish! I think a nice green salad on the side would be good, or if you're going to be using the grill, grilling some corn on the cob would be easier than stir fry. You could also serve it with a nice fruit salad.
